TCEA 2018 Reflections

Having left the conference a few hours ago I have been trying to process all the things i have learned over the past week.   There were so many cool tech tools, websites and add-ons to learn about, but those will wait for another blog post at another time.

My three big takeaways from TCEA this year.

The Power of Reflection:   Before we can do portfolios with students (or as part of it) we need to teach them to reflect in meaningful ways on their learning.  In order for me to teach that, I need to practice it.  One reason I am writing this blog post.

The Power of Real World Audiences:  I have heard many times that the quality of products increase when there is a real world audience.  I know that to be true for my own writing and resources - if I am creating for someone else to read and use I put much more care into the creation, than if it is only for myself.

The Power of Walking the Walk:  If I say that this is how things should be done, then I need to be practicing those things myself.  So I am writing this blog post, to reflect on my learning and to write for a real world audience.

There are the things that have risen to the top of my thinking as what I need to focus on this coming year as I introduce all those cool websites and ideas.   Because it is not about the tool, it is what you do with it that matters!
