It's not about the technology - What I learned from American Idol.

My husband and I are big Idol fans from way back (season 3).  It's one of the few shows we watch together.   When Idol got rebooted I was excited to continue our tradition of watching, this time with our children.    I am amazed by the teachable moments this show provides for me and my children.   We have talked about losing graciously, how not giving up is important and how the way in which you present yourself makes a difference.

Watching the first episode of the American Idol reboot I was also reminded that what you do with the tools you have is so much more important than having the latest and greatest.   Dennis Lorenzo got up and performed with a guitar that had a hole in it and played it well as noted by the judges.

We have gotten a lot of new technology on campus these past few years and especially this year with the Innovation Grant our campus received.   I was very glad for this timely reminder to keep the focus on what the students can do with all the technology they currently have access to, instead of focusing on the technology itself.  I am going to keep this lesson front and center as we enter the home stretch of the school year.
