This week was not what I had planned. After an unfortunate meeting with some asphalt I found myself having a little more down time on the couch than I anticipated. This led to an exploration in virtual reality and in online learning. I have signed up for 2 online learning classes to not only learn about a new technology, but to learn more about structuring online courses. (My master's program was online, but I don't have access to those fancy tools.) I have also agreed to develop and teach an online course. I tried to get this going in our district a few years back, but did not have the buy in needed and maybe tried to structure it to much, or overthink it. Something I am prone to do. :)
So my one new thing this week is to finish these courses and start developing my own online courses. I think planning on what I would do in an face to face course for that amount of time on the topic and then figuring out how to turn that into a self-paced course will be a great start.
One of my course topics I want to create is on bell-to-bell technology. How to use technology from a bell-ringer to an exit ticket. The other course I want to develop for my staff and for summer PD is on Virtual Technology. There are so many great resources out there that I want to pull some of those togethr and share with the staff so they are not having to start from scratch. I also want to implement virtual reality with rigor attached. This should not just be about wowing students and putting on a show, but also about really learning the materials and mastering the TEKS. I look forward to sharing those ideas in a future post.
